nature of my presence there.  I would add, as a footnote to Shultz, that I would certainly have no interest in trading places with him.  I hope you will give particular attention to the Quotes From The Quad comment of Erica White.  This young lady must be rather precocious, as her answer is right on the mark.  "Isn't that what college is about?" she asks.  Apparently Dr. Kelly and several of his associates don't think so.  In his "tolerance" editorial, James Hartman provides the kind of arm's length, unbiased analysis one might expect from an independent observer with a realistic attitude, reasonably good judgment, and a reverence for the freedoms America stands for.  Hartman states, "It is deeply disturbing if a man, just for being different, was forced to leave....".  Intolerance doesn't seem to disturb Dr. Kelly.
In the "Alumnus replies...." continuation of the Jason Sanchez article, Assistant Dean Goodwin makes a suggestive remark about loiterers.  A university campus is a place where intellectual pursuits are undertaken.  If Goodwin confuses the memorization and recitation of poetry and the hearty philosophical interchange I engaged in with whatever serious students I could find on campus, whenever I could find them, intellectual pursuits all, with loitering, he is, at best, rather unobservant.  He goes on to assert, "Certainly we want alumni participation on campus; however we also expect some standards of conduct from them."  I hope that some interested Tulane affiliate will be kind enough to pass the word to Assistant Dean Goodwin that I am prepared to answer for and to defend my conduct in all of its particulars and that I hope Mr. Goodwin will attend himself to his own conduct, and refrain from commenting gratuitously upon the conduct of others.  If Mr. Goodwin has some specific complaint about my conduct he would like to bring forth, I would encourage him to do so, so that I might be afforded the opportunity of setting the record straight.  In the absence of such a specific complaint, I would urge Mr. Goodwin to say nothing at all on the topic, since his words, as quoted by the Hullabaloo, make him sound a bit like a bigot.  Mr. Goodwin does not know me.  The only time I ever spoke to Mr. Goodwin was after my exclusion from campus.  I asked him if he would allow me to tell the story from my side.  His reply, "No."
Earlier in the Sanchez article it is alleged that I "made a pass" at a female friend of a student marshall, and that she was asked (that's right, ACTUALLY SOLICITED by the Kelly administration's own security people, if the article is accurate on this point) to file, you guessed it, another one of those "complaints to Tulane Security."  A pass?  Rather a vague accusation, I think.  Does this mean I passed her in a corridor?  My point is that such an accusation is worse than meaningless.  It conveys negative images about the accused
